Meandering Through Muskoka

Updated: Nov 12, 2023

An enchanted getaway to the Muskoka area is food for the soul. There is so much to do for every kind of interest from hiking, shopping or sight seeing. Any place you choose to visit seems to be lovely and does not disappoint. The scenery is breath taking.

We first headed to Rosseau Lake because our kids were camping up there. What a beautiful lake and very sought after. On the way there were many little quaint towns to stop for a visit, have a drink or browse the boutiques.

We continued on our drive to Windermere and stayed at the Windermere House. This hotel/resort was built in the late 1800s, but is very fresh and modern with a flare for tradition. The first thing we did was look out to the back porch (restaurant area) and peruse the 180 degree view of the lake. The lake was at the end of a hill speckled with white Muskoka chairs. You could go to the bottom of the hill and walk the docks or go for a swim off the beach.

The hotel room was very nice and clean. I loved the tall windows and the built in cabinets.

The restaurant had two dining options with delicious and properly prepared food, eat in or on the large porch. Well, we choose bubbly on the porch overlooking the lake, of course!

Later that night we drove to Minett to visit a friend at the J.W, Marriott. If you are looking for that "Lake Louise" hotel feel, try this one out. Stunning from the moment we entered the lobby from their signature scent that lingers softly in the air, awe worthy decor and elaborate lighting. I could not get enough of the wonderful scent!

Just a side note, there are a lot of animals on the road, walking, especially at night. Be careful! We had seen hawks, a porcupine, a fox, and many deer in just a short drive.

The following day we visited many little areas like Port Carling. So many adorable and quaint stores and galleries before heading to Gravenhurst for another night.

There was a great Mexican themed restaurant here called Casamigos. Cindy Crawford and company have been known to visit this area and support the restaurant.

The final night of our little getaway we stayed in Gravenhurst at the Residence Inn by Mariott. A nice hotel with a balcony overlooking a large bay. So beautiful to have your coffee out here in the morning. The grounds had a nice area to walk around, which we found this little look out spot.

The wharf in Gravenhurst is nice to walk around. The bay is really picturesque. There are many spots to take photos. There are a few shops and a couple restaurants. We found that we could not go here if we were looking for a lot to do. Most of my shopping was done here in this wharf. And the best place to get a cup of "Starbucks" coffee.

I hope you enjoyed the information about Muskoka and visit it next summer! Let me know if you need help with any travel plans for this vacation. (Flights, Rail, hotels, car rentals, etc.)
